If gravity, childbearing, and breastfeeding have transformed your breasts into an unacceptable version of their former selves, you are certainly not alone. Common changes include drooping of the breast, enlargement of the areola, and loss of volume and skin elasticity, especially in the upper pole. Breast lift surgery reverses these effects by repositioning the breast and nipple to a more youthful position, and reducing the areolar diameter. This procedure is often performed with a breast implant for enhancement of breast size or shape. Occasionally, certain patients with drooping breasts can be corrected without a lift by implant placement alone. Dr. Song respects each patient’s breast goals, and uses multiple techniques to achieve the greatest aesthetic result including the periareolar or “donut” procedure, the vertical or “lollipop” procedure, and the Wise-pattern or “anchor scar” procedure. Dr. Song is a skilled plastic surgeon who has the expertise and knowledge to transform breasts from sagging to shapely.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed
Breast lift procedures are commonly performed under general anesthesia, but some patients may be candidates for conscious sedation or “twilight” anesthesia. There are several different methods that Dr. Song can incorporate in your breast lift procedure, but ultimately you decide on what kind of incisions you want to have. You will be presented with a number of different options and Dr. Song will make recommendations based on your anatomy and the results you desire.
What To Expect After a Breast Lift Surgery
You can expect to feel some discomfort during the recovery period, but it will subside as the healing process ensues. Dr. Song will send you home with post-operative instructions that are unique to you, but you can expect to wear a front closing, wire-free, soft cup bra for four weeks. It is recommended that you wear the bra night and day to reduce swelling and to provide you with adequate support. The only time you should not be wearing the bra is when you are bathing. Be sure to have enough bras to wear day and night. Although complete recovery takes several weeks, you can resume daily activities within a few days, and return to the gym for light exercise in two weeks, and unrestricted exercise in four weeks.
